How to improve your English Language Skills Let's start with some tips. The past of WIN is W O N and this is pronounced as 1. That's it. 1. Now let's talk about the past tense E D. There are three sounds here ED as just D. Clean - cleaned, arrive - arrived. ED as t, stop - stopped, dance - danced. ED as id, paint - painted, depart - departed. These are examples of the past tense pronunciation. The first thing to do is to learn grammar lessons, especially if our schooling is of vernacular medium. This has to be done regularly, I mean that regular practice is necessary. The reading habit has to be developed. No excuses here. Robin Sharma in 'The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari' says 'if you want to lead, you have to read.' When you read you will learn something new. Now what to read? An English newspaper, everyday for an hour. Two things will happen. The first is you will know what's happening in your city and country. Second your English will improve. Your vocabulary and sentence formation will improve. Remember this takes time for everyone, but the ones who do it regularly will show marked improvement. What to read next? When we start traveling again in buses and trains, we must use that time to read. No listening to songs and watching videos on the mobile phone. Use that time to read. Again, the newspaper and then books, fiction, self-help books. If your choice is religious books, go for it. Reading books helps your imagination grow. Watching videos or films is only entertainment. It's needed on weekends only. Not everyday. There will come a time when you will enjoy reading and that's when growth begins. Now let's talk about business English. Read the business pages of any newspaper and write down one sentence thrice a week, 52 weeks x 3 sentences is 156 sentences. Gradually as you learn you will speak and your English will get better. If we want to work in multinational companies we need to be worth employing. No references and recommendations needed. Amir Khan is 3 Idiots says, 'Kabil bano.' Success follows. Keep upgrading yourself, once you reach a certain position, working will mean 'communicating or talking' most of the time. At this time, your language skills have to be excellent. People must be convinced on the phone. No physical or Zoom meeting. I want to tell you all that I have started this journey and it all depends on my efforts now. I read a little in the morning and again after work. From where I was to where I am, the difference is my ability to speak English. Brian T. 9223203441 / 7710027662
Let's go back to Office Two years, well almost two years since this WFH (work from home) or WFA (work from anywhere) started and now hopefully we are going back to office again soon. Soon as in soon soon. I'm waiting eagerly. Many of my friends too want to go back to their offices to work. So it's not only me. WFH has its pluses and minuses. The pluses include dress casually, actually very casually. No crazy travel. Those crowded buses and then local trains. Both stressful when you are traveling with the crowd. And the time saved, isn't really saved, many times we all have had to work longer hours and so it balanced. The best part of WFH was the hot delicious meals. Initially the mood at home was, "Oh, we're all locked in the house, so we might as well enjoy a good meal." That excitement faded as time passed and the hot evening snacks was the first to go, followed by the dishes getting back to the usual simple dals, vegetables, etc. Food delivery services earned handsomely during the lockdown but when you have your mom at home, she knows to make everything. And so fast food was also homemade. The next point may annoy some of our women colleagues. It's about clothing. Two years, you know and I haven't bought a new shirt and trousers. I wear shirts when I have to attend an online video meet otherwise it's all casual. Just home clothes. And now the most important point. Let's go back to office, that feeling of working with everyone around, meeting people on a daily basis, exchanging ideas, the nervousness before appraisals, meeting deadlines, having chai during breaks, sharing lunch, and enjoying office picnics and functions together is what at least I am looking forward too. Ok, the last bit, something we don't think about, but it's important. The economy, yes, the economy grows. When we go to work, we travel, so the transport business benefits, those workers earn a living. Clothes again, we need to wear formal clothes, so that business benefits, then grooming, men also, don't be surprised what men demand for and women they need it. The big expense is when we colleagues go out for a meal to celebrate birthdays and festivals, weekend dinners, movies, all these activities help the economy, something that we don't even think as serious, but it's real and a big boost to the economy.
